Phoenix, Ariz. – Senior Imanuel Zorgvol scored a career-high 18 points and led four players scoring in double figures as the Youngstown State men's basketball team knocked off Grand Canyon, 90-81, in front of a raucous crowd of 7,142 at Global Credit Union Arena.
Zorgvol connected on 7-of-9 from the field and posted four blocks to lead the Penguins, who improve to 1-1.
Grand Canyon fell to 1-1 and had its 15-game home winning streak snapped.
Senior Cris Carroll and junior Tae Blackshear each poured in 14 points and Drew King added a double-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists.
The Penguins, who shot 48.2 percent from the field, connected on 12 3-pointers led by Carroll and junior Rich Rolf.
Youngstown State shot 56 percent from the field in the second half connecting on 14-of-25 and making 5-for-10 from beyond the arc.
The Penguins and Antelopes fought through 13 lead changes and five ties through the first 25 minutes of the game and were tied 51-51 with 15:06 left in the game.
Youngstown State went on a 12-2 run to take a 63-53 lead capped by three free throws from Blackshear, and, after GCU cut the lead back to 63-61, the Penguins scored 16 of the next 22 points to take a 12-point lead, 79-67, with four minutes to go.
Grand Canyon got as close as six points with 1:30 left.
Youngstown State hosts Penn State-Shenango, Monday, Nov. 10, in the 2025-26 home opener. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. at Zidian Family Arena at Beeghly Center.
