Three Penguins Selected for 2025 Valeo Horizon League Volleyball All-Academic Team

Youngstown State volleyball student-athletes Abbie Householder, Gabriela Machin and Maria Insana have been recognized on the 2025 Valeo Horizon League Volleyball All-Academic Team, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
Householder and Machin were part of the 13-person all-academic team, and Insana was one of five players to be named honorable mention. Householder was selected for the second straight season, while Machin and Insana are first-time honorees.
Householder is a senior business administration major who leads the Horizon League in kills and points per set while also ranking fourth in aces per set. She is one of two active Division I players in the country with at least 1,300 career kills and 1,200 career digs. In addition to being named to the Horizon League All-Academic Team in 2024, the outside hitter from Canfield, Ohio, is a two-time Academic All-District pick.
Machin is one of eight players in the country averaging at least 3.0 kills per set while also hitting .330. A junior right-side hitter from San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico, Machin ranks seventh in the Horizon League with 3.19 kills per set while also ranking third in the circuit with a .341 hitting percentage. A marketing major, she made a huge leap forward, setting new career highs in kills, aces, digs, blocks and points.
Insana has served as the Penguins' libero over the final five weeks of the season and has played in 93 sets overall. She is averaging 2.31 digs per set overall, and she has a career-high 215 total digs while tying her previous career high with 43 assists. A junior business administration major from Chagrin Falls, Ohio, Insana was an Academic All-District selection by College Sports Communicators in 2024.
