Youngstown, Ohio — Youngstown State has earned the third seed in the 2025 Horizon League Volleyball Championship and will open tournament play on Friday at 3 p.m. against sixth-seeded Green Bay.
The Penguins will enter the tournament at Truist Arena at Highland Heights, Ky., following its best regular season in more than a decade. YSU set a new program record with 11 Horizon League wins, and the No. 3 seed is its highest since joining the conference in 2001.
Northern Kentucky will serve as the top seed and tournament's host after going 17-1 in conference play with the lone loss coming to the Penguins on Oct. 4 at Zidian Family Arena at Beeghly Center. Wright State is the second seed and gets a bye along with NKU into the semifinals. If Youngstown State beats Green Bay, it would play the Raiders on Saturday at 6 p.m.
YSU finished in a three-way tie with fourth-seeded IU Indianapolis and fifth-seeded Milwaukee but won the tiebreaker by going a combined 4-0 against the Jaguars and Panthers during the regular season.
The Penguins lost 3-1 twice at Green Bay in the first two matches of the conference slate on Sept. 26-27.
