The Youngstown State men's golf team will be back in action on Monday when it begins play in the two-day Tom Tontimonia Invitational hosted by Cleveland State at Lakewood Country Club in Westlake, Ohio.
The Penguins are coming off an eighth-place team finish in the Virtues Intercollegiate on Sept. 29-30 at Virtues Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio. Senior Ryan Sam finished tied for 22nd with a three-round score of 220 (72-75-73) to come in as YSU's top individual.
The tournament field at the Tom Tontimonia Invitational will feature seven other teams including Bowling Green, Cleveland State, Findlay, Green Bay, IU Indy, Northern Kentucky and Purdue Fort Wayne. Additionally, Cincinnati and Kent State will each have players competing as individuals only.
The field is scheduled to play 36 continuous holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday in the two-day, 54-hole event. Monday's opening round will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. while Tuesday's final session is slated to begin at approximately 9:15 a.m. Live scoring will be available via Scoreboard through links posted on YSUsports.com.
Head Coach Tony Joy has announced that YSU's five-player team lineup will feature Sam, Jordan Kish, Michael Porter, Nolan Shilling and Jake Ryan. In addition, Bryar Moss and Rocco Turner will be competing as individuals for the Penguins.
Kish, Porter, Sam and Shilling have participated in each of YSU's first three events this fall. Ryan and Turner have competed in two tournaments while Moss made his YSU debut at the Mercyhurst Laker Fall Invitational on Sept. 14-15.
Cleveland State's annual fall tournament is named after longtime CSU athletic administrator Tom Tontimonia. The tournament returns to Lakewood Country Club as its regular host site this season. Lakewood recently completed a significant renovation project which restored the layout to reflect the original design of the property by A.W Tillinghast in 1924.
