The Youngstown State men's golf team will begin a busy stretch of two tournaments in four days when it opens play on Saturday in the Virtues Intercollegiate hosted by Miami and Bowling Green at The Virtues Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio.
The Penguins will play 54 holes over the two-day event on Saturday and Sunday before traveling to Hinckley, Ohio, to compete in Cleveland State's Tom Tontimonia Invitational at Pine Hills Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday.
In its most recent tournament, YSU finished 11th at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational on Sept. 9-10. Playing in his second collegiate tournament, true freshman Jordan Kish finished tied for 29th to pace the Penguins on the individual leaderboard. The Massillon, Ohio, native recorded a three-round score of 215 (73-71-71).
The tournament field at the Virtues Intercollegiate will feature players from 16 other schools including Belmont, Bowling Green, Butler, Dayton, Eastern Michigan, James Madison, Kent State, Longwood, Marshall, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio, Robert Morris, St. Bonaventure and Wright State.
The teams will play 36 holes on Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday in the two-day, 54-hole event. Saturday's first round will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. with continuous play through the second round. Sunday's final session will also commence with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. The course will play approximately 7,243 yards and par is 72. Head Coach Tony Joy has announced that YSU's five-player lineup at the Virtues Intercollegiate will feature Jacob Sylak, Ryan Sam, Jake Ryan, Nolan Shilling and Kish.
Following the Virtues Intercollegiate, the Penguins will participate in the Tom Tontimonia Invitational hosted by Cleveland State on Monday and Tuesday at Pine Hills Golf Club in Hinckley, Ohio.
The tournament field at the Tom Tontimonia Invitational will feature eight other schools including Chicago State, Cleveland State, Detroit Mercy, IU Indianapolis, Northern Kentucky, Oakland, Saint Francis and Walsh.
