The Youngstown State men's golf team picked up a seventh-place finish in the season-opening Red Bandana Invitational hosted by Boston College on Monday at Turning Stone Resort in Verona, N.Y.
The Penguins posted a three-round team total of 922 to place seventh out of 11 teams in their 2024-25 season opener. YSU recorded team scores of 316 and 303 in the first two rounds, respectively, on Sunday before posting another 303 in the third and final session on Monday.
Ryan Sam paced the Penguins individually, finishing tied for 14th with a three-round score of 225 (79-69-77). The junior's three-under-par 69 in the second round on Sunday featured 11 pars and five birdies as he fired a four-under-par 32 on the back nine.
Michael Porter finished tied for 21st with a three-round total of 228 (76-78-74). The redshirt sophomore's two-over-par 74 in the final session included 13 pars and pair of birdies as he shot an even-par 36 on the front nine.
Jordan Kish finished tied for 29th in his collegiate debut with a three-round 236 (82-78-76). The true freshman's final-round 76 featured 10 pars and two birdies as he carded a an even-par 36 on the front nine.
Jake Ryan finished in a tie for 32nd with a three-round score of 237 (79-82-76). The sophomore's third-round 76 included 13 pars and a birdie on the par-four No. 16.
Rocco Turner finished tied for 51st in his collegiate debut with a three-round total of 250 (86-78-86). The true freshman's second-round 78 featured nine pars and three birdies as he turned in a one-under-par 35 on the front nine.
Boston College won its home tournament title by 18 strokes at three over par with a three-round team total of 867. North Dakota State finished as the runner-up with an 885 while Sacred Heart placed third with an 888.
Markus Lam and Ben Hong of Boston College each finished with a three-round score of 215 to share medalist honors.
Youngstown State will continue its fall schedule on Sept. 9-10 with the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational at Guyan Golf & Country Club in Huntington, W. Va.
