Youngstown, Ohio – Redshirt freshman Sara Felder scored the first goal of her career and redshirt freshman Maya Naimoli set a career high in saves, but the Youngstown State women's soccer team fell to Duquesne, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon at Farmers National Bank Field.
The Penguins close out non-conference play with a 2-4-2 overall record while the Dukes won their fifth consecutive game and improve to 6-1.
Naimoli faced a total of 27 shots, including 12 on goal, and posted a career-high nine saves. The Penguins were also credited with a team save.
Felder's first career goal knotted the game at 1-1 in the 57th minute. Kate Makkas delivered a pass down the left sideline to Taylor Berry, and Berry's cross inside the six found Felder with the equalizer.
The Dukes scored in the 38th minute to take a 1-0 lead on Maya Matesa's second goal of the year.
Duquesne's Brianna Moore notched her sixth goal of the season in the 76th minute for the game winner.
Youngstown State opens Horizon League play against Detroit Mercy, Thursday, Sept. 19. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Detroit, Mich.
