Youngstown, Ohio – The Youngstown State women's soccer team needed a complete team effort to ensure victory against George Washington on Sunday afternoon, and the Penguins responded with a 1-0 shutout over the Revolutionaries at Farmers National Bank Field.
The Penguins improve to 2-1-2 overall and 2-0-1 at home while the Revolutionaries fall to 1-3-1 on the season.
Redshirt freshman Maya Naimoli collected four saves, faced 12 total shots and recorded her second career shutout in the win.
Senior Elis Klein Spindola scored her first goal of the season and her first game winner. Tatum Gretz was credited with the assist on the score.
Sophomore Lenea Guerrero gained possession of the ball near midfield and advanced the ball to Klein Spindola in Revolutionaries' territory. After a quick pass back to Gretz, Gretz slid a left-footed through ball past George Washington's last line of defense.
Klein Spindola raced down the middle of the field and chipped her shot from 25 yards out and over the head to George Washington goalkeeper in the 30th minute.
The Penguins tallied 11 total shots led by Klein Spindola and Taylor Berry and recorded three corner kicks, all in the second half.
The Penguins visit St. Bonaventure, Thursday, Sept. 5. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in St. Bonaventure, N.Y.
