
Softball Earns Third-Highest GPA in Nation

Louisville, Ky. – The Youngstown State softball team earned a spot on the Easton/NFCA Top 10 Team GPA list, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced.
Youngstown State ranked third nationally with a team grade-point average of 3.78 for the 2023-24 academic year.
During the spring semester, the Penguins posted a 3.79 team GPA, and 11 players recorded a 4.0 semester GPA and 22 players posted at least a 3.0 semester GPA. Also 20 Penguins were named Easton/NFCA Scholar-Athlete All-Americans.
The rankings and honors recognize the academic prowess of softball teams across the Association's membership categories. NCAA Division I led the way with 2,573 student-athletes earning a 3.5 grade-point average or higher for 2023-24. NCAA Division III followed with 2,285 and NCAA Division II with 1,510. NAIA and junior colleges came in with 873 and 808 student-athletes respectively. Five student-athletes from Penn State Brandywine earned recognition in the Other Four-Year category.
