Youngstown, Ohio – Graduate student Lianna Van Sice and junior Taylor Berry each scored goals as the Youngstown State women's soccer team battled Kent State to a 2-2 draw on Sunday afternoon at Farmers National Bank Field.
The Penguins move to 0-0-1 on the year fall the Golden Flashes are now 1-0-1.
Van Sice gave the Penguins an early 1-0 lead in the 11th minute of the match. Junior Chloe Weiland raced down the left side and centered a through ball to the to of the penalty box. Van Sice fought off a defender, beat the keeper to the ball and connected with right-footer to the lower left corner of the goal.
Kent State's Josie Morgan knotted the game at 1-1 with a goal in the 25th minute, and the Golden Flashes took 2-1 lead after Samantha Miller's score in the 46th minute.
Berry tied the game at 2-2 on penalty kick in the 56th minute. It marked Berry's eighth career goal.
Redshirt freshman Maya Naimoli recorded six saves in her collegiate debut.
Youngstown State hosts Saint Francis (Pa.), Thursday, Aug. 22. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Farmers National Bank Field.
