Batavia, Ohio – The Youngstown State men's golf team wrapped up play at the 54-hole The Jewell by hosted by Northern Kentucky at the Elks Run Golf Club on Sunday.
Senior Cole Christman led the way with a season-best 23rd-place performance. Christman had a three-round total of 219 (71-73-75) over the 54 holes of play. His previous best finish this year was a 24th-place effort which came at the Tom Tontimonia Invitational in October. He was just one shot away from 19th at The Jewell.
The Penguins finished ninth as a team with a three-round total of 895. YSU posted scores of 294 and 298 on Saturday and concluded the event with a 304 on Sunday.
Christman had six birdies over the course of the tournament and opened with an even-par 71.
Justin Atkinson finished 47th with a three-round total of 226. Atkinson had rounds of 76, 74 and 76 at the tournament.
Dean Austalosh had rounds of 76, 74 and 77 to finish 53rd with a 227 while Jake Sylak shot scores of 75, 75 and 78 to place 55th with a 228. Michael Porter (230) and Conner Stevens (235) rounded out the Guins' finishers.
Wright State claimed the tournament title with a six-under-par three-round score of 846 while Oakland was the runner-up an 868. WSU's Mikkel Mathieson took home medalist honors by two shots with a three-round 205.
YSU is back in action on April 15-16 when they compete at the Highland Meadows Intercollegiate hosted by Bowling Green in Sylvania, Ohio.
