West Lafayette, Ind. – The Youngstown State men's tennis team dropped a tough 4-3 decision to Tennessee State in the quarterfinals of the Horizon League Championships on Friday morning at the Schwartz Tennis Complex.
YSU won the doubles point and the first two completed matches before the Tigers earned the final four points to rally for the victory.
In doubles, the Guins won at No. 1 and No. 2 to earn the point. At No. 1, Nishant Dabas and Onder Balci picked up a 6-1 victory while at No. 2, Harry Fouzas and David Alvarez Moreno clinched it a 6-4.
The Penguins opened singles play with two straight set victories. At No. 3, Nathan Favier won 6-0, 6-3 and William Rassat followed soon after with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph at No. 4.
However, YSU lost in straight sets soon after at No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6 singles as the Tigers tied the match 3-3.
In the decisive match, Balci and TSU's Taj Hibbert were tied at a set apiece. Hibbert won the third set by a score of 6-2 for the match victory.
