Atkinson and Austalosh Finish in Top 25 at Don Benbow Butler Spring Invitational

Justin Atkinson and Dean Austalosh each finished in the top 25 individually to lead the Youngstown State men's golf team to a 10th-place finish in the Don Benbow Butler Spring Invitational on Monday at Highland Golf & Country Club in Indianapolis, Ind.

The field of teams played 36 holes on Monday before Tuesday's third and final round was canceled due to heavy overnight rainfall and expected inclement weather conditions. The Penguins tied for 10th as a team with a two-round total of 578. YSU recorded a 286 in the opening round of action before posting 292 in Monday's second session.

Atkinson finished tied for 22nd with a two-round score of 141 (68-73) to earn his fourth top-25 finish of the season. The senior matched his season-low round with a bogey-free, two-under-par 68 in the opening session that featured 16 pars and a pair of birdies.

Austalosh also tied for 22nd with a two-round 141 (73-68) to collect his second top-25 finish of the campaign. The redshirt senior matched his season and career-low round with a two-under-par 68 in the second session that included 11 pars, three birdies and an eagle on the par-four No. 6.

Cole Christman finished the tournament with a two-round total of 147 (70-77). The fifth-year senior's even-par 70 in the opening round featured 10 pars and four birdies. Jimmy Graham concluded the event with a two-round 150 (74-76) that included a season-low round of 74 in the opening session.

Jacob Sylak turned in a two-round score of 150 (75-75) while Ryan Sam finished with a two-round total of 151 (75-76).

Butler and Purdue Fort Wayne shared the tournament title as each concluded play with a two-round team total of 558. Indian Hills placed third with a 559 while Bradley and Oakland each posted a 562 to finish tied for fourth.

Indiana's Nick Piesen earned medalist honors by two strokes at seven under par with a two-round score of 133 (68-65).

Youngstown State will continue its spring schedule on Saturday when it begins play in The Jewell hosted by Northern Kentucky at Elks Run Golf Club in Batavia, Ohio.
