Christman Paces Penguins at Highland Meadows Intercollegiate

Fifth-year senior Cole Christman earned a season-best 12th-place finish to pace the Youngstown State men's golf team at the Highland Meadows Intercollegiate hosted by Bowling Green, which concluded on Tuesday from Highland Meadows Golf Club in Sylvania, Ohio.

The Penguins finished eighth as a team with a three-round total of 868. Youngstown State recorded team scores of 290 and 282 in the first two rounds, respectively, on Monday before closing the tournament with a 296 in the final session on Tuesday. YSU's second-round 282 marked its lowest single-round team score since posting a 282 in the final round of the Bucknell Invitational on Oct. 10.

Christman finished tied for 12th with a three-round score of 211 (73-67-71) to earn his best individual placing of the season. The fifth-year senior matched his season and career-low round with a four-under-par 67 in the second session on Monday. Christman's second round featured 12 pars and five birdies while his even-par 71 in the final round included 12 pars three birdies.

Justin Atkinson finished tied for 31st with a three-round total of 217 (69-72-76). The senior's two-under-par 69 in the opening round featured 14 pars and three birdies while his second-round 72 included 11 pars and three birdies.

Dean Austalosh finished tied for 36th with a three-round score of 219 (77-69-73). The redshirt senior's two-under-par 69 in the second session featured 12 pars and four birdies while his final-round 73 included 12 pars and a pair of birdies.

Jacob Sylak concluded the event tied for 42nd with a three-round 221 (71-74-76). The junior's even-par 71 in the first round featured 14 pars and two birdies while his second-round 74 included 12 pars and two birdies.

Michael Porter finished the tournament with a three-round score of 227 (75-75-77) playing as an individual while Ryan Sam carded a three-round total of 228 (77-75-76).

Minnesota claimed the tournament title by nine shots at 19 under par with a three-round team total of 833. Miami Ohio finished as the runner-up with an 842 while Indian Hills placed third with an 846. St. Thomas finished fourth with an 854 while North Dakota rounded out the top five with an 856.

Minnesota's Ben Warian earned medalist honors by five strokes at 15 under par with a three-round score of 198 (65-63-70).

Youngstown State will now turn its focus to the 2024 Horizon League Golf Championships, which will take place April 20-22 at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla.
