Allen Park, Mich. — The Youngstown State bowling team dropped its opening match of the Final Four 2-0 in a mega-match to Arkansas State on Friday morning at Thunderbowl Lanes. The Penguins will now bowl an elimination match to try and keep their season alive at 3 p.m. against Sam Houston.
The Penguins played from behind the entire traditional point and fell 987-860 to the Red Wolves, who advance in the winners' bracket to play Jacksonville State. Kirsten Moore had YSU's highest score at 189 in the round.
Youngstown State got off to a better start in the Baker pinfall round and held a 23-pin lead after two games, but Arkansas State got hot and threw 11 straight strikes between the end of game three and the start of game four to pull ahead. The Red Wolves had a 245-189 edge in game four to add 56 pins to its one-pin advantage, and they fired a 248 in game five to close out the match.
