Youngstown State senior Kirsten Moore has been named the Conference USA Bowler of the Month for February, giving the Penguins award winners back-to-back months. The conference office announced the award on Wednesday.
Moore, who hails from Tallmadge, Ohio, is a conference bowler of the month for the first time in her career. She follows her teammate Jade Cote, who earned the accolade in January.
Moore claimed the individual title at the Mid-Winter Invitational, which was YSU's only tournament in February. She bowled a five-game set of 1,217 to win the event by 47 pins, and she averaged 21.01 pins per frame overall at the tournament. Moore topped 210 in all five games at the tournament, and she cemented the MVP award by bowling a career-high game of 279 in a win over Vanderbilt. She also fired a 261 in a victory against Grambling. Moore struck on 70% of her attempts and posted a .940 fill percentage in traditional play.
Moore's 1,217 set was the highest five-game set in school history, and her 243.40 average in traditional games was the highest ever by a Penguin at a tournament.
Moore and the Penguins will bowl at the Music City Classic in Smyrna, Tenn., on March 15-17 in their final tournament of the regular season. The Conference USA Championship will be March 22-24 in Harahan, La.
