Greenville, N.C. – Three players each had two hits and senior Sophie Howell posted another quality start as the Youngstown State softball team defeated Saint Joseph's, 10-2, in five innings on Sunday morning.
The Penguins improve to 9-6 on the season.
Ashlyn Bishop, Conchetta Rinaldi, and Lydia Wilkerson each collected two hits while Jillian Jakse drove in a pair of runs.
Howell picked up her fifth win of the year firing a complete game with six strikeouts.
The Penguins scored four times in the second, three times in the fourth and three more time in the fifth inning.
Youngstown State capitalized on two Hawks errors in the second to plate four unearned runs and take a 4-1 lead.
In the fourth, after Sara Fessler and Sydney Payne walked Jakse drilled a two-run double to left field to put the Penguins up 6-1. Rinaldi followed with a single up the middle to plate Jakse and give the Penguins a six-run edge.
The Hawks scored one in the bottom of the fourth, but the Penguins answered with three more in the top of the fifth.
The Penguins return to action against Norfolk State and UNLV, March 8-9, in Norfolk, Va.
