Five Reach Doubles in 71-59 Win at Green Bay

Green Bay, Wis. – Five players scored in double figures to lead the Youngstown State men's basketball team to a 71-59 win over Green Bay on Sunday afternoon at the Kress Center.

Seniors Ziggy Reid and Brett Thompson each had 16 points to lead the Penguins while DJ Burns recorded his 12th straight double-double and the 20th of the season with 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Brandon Rush scored 13 points and had three 3-pointers and Bryson Langdon added 10 points.

The Penguins who improve to 21-9 overall and 13-6 in the Horizon League, led for nearly 30 minutes and led for the final 29:21 of the game.

Green Bay scored the first four points of the second half to cut the Penguins lead down to three, but the Penguins pushed their lead back to 10, 44-34, keyed by Rush's third 3-pointer of the game at the 14:52 mark.

Over the next nine minutes, the Penguins boosted their lead to 12 points spurred by Reid and Langdon. Reid hit a jumper and a 3-poiner while Langdon made a 15-footer and a converted a four-point play with 6:11 to go.

Thompson scored eight straight YSU points in the final 3:30 of the game, and the Penguins defense held the Phoenix to just 29 second-half points.

In the first half, the Penguins used a 13-3 run to turn a four-point deficit into a 19-13 lead. The Penguins led by as many as nine, 31-22, keyed by seven points from Burns and a basket by EJ Farmer.

Thompson drilled a pair of 3-pointers in the final minute of the half to give the Penguins a 37-30 edge at the intermission.

Youngstown State closes out the regular season against Detroit Mercy, Wednesday, Feb. 28. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
