Junior Lizzie Saur finished tied for 14th individually to lead the Youngstown State women's golf team to an 11th-place team finish at the three-day Columbia Classic, which concluded on Monday from Duran Golf Club in Melbourne, Fla.
In their first tournament of the spring season, the Penguins finished with a three-round team total of 921. YSU opened the event with a 301 in the first round on Saturday before posting team scores 306 and 314 in the final two sessions on Sunday and Monday, respectively.
Saur concluded the tournament with a career-best three-round score of 222 (74-73-75) to finish tied for 14th. The junior's two-over-par 74 in the opening round featured 14 pars and a birdie on the par-five No. 9. Saur's one-over-par 73 in the second session included nine pars and four birdies as she fired an even-par 36 on the back nine. In the final round on Monday, she recorded 11 pars and three birdies.
Neeranuch Prajunpanich finished tied for 25th with a three-round total of 226 (72-76-78). The freshman's even-par 72 in the first round on Saturday featured 12 pars and three birdies while her second-round 76 included 10 pars and a pair of birdies.
In her first tournament action since Sept. 2, Danae Rugola finished the event with a three-round 238 (77-85-76). The fifth-year senior's final-round 76 featured 10 pars and two birdies. Playing as an individual, Chaela Barnett recorded a three-round score of 242 (77-81-84). The sophomore's first-round 77 included 12 pars and a birdie on the par-three No. 13.
Titita Loudtragulngam turned in a three-round total of 253 (85-83-85) while Madie Smithco carded rounds of 78 and 74 before withdrawing during Monday's final round. Smithco's two-over-par 74 in the second session Sunday featured 14 pars and a birdie on the par-three No. 4 as she shot an even-par 36 on the back nine.
Yale claimed the tournament title by three strokes at seven under par with a three-round team total of 871 while Penn State finished as the runner up with an 874. Penn State's Michelle Cox earned medalist honors by four strokes at nine under par with a three-round score of 207 (69-67-71).
Youngstown State will continue its spring schedule on March 4-5 with the Howard University Lady Bison Invitational at Hawkstone Country Club in Gainesville, Fla.
