Youngstown, Ohio – Youngstown State shot nearly 64 percent from the field and six players scored in double figure enroute to a 128-60 win over Bethany on Saturday evening at Zidian Family Arena at Beeghly Center.
With the win, Youngstown State improves to 3-5 on the year while the Bison fall to 5-2.
The Penguins shot 63.6 percent from the field, made 14 3-pointers, and set a school single-game record with 38 assists. The 128 points and field-goal percentage are the third most in school history while the Penguins' 68-point margin of victory ranked fifth all-time.
Sophomore Gabe Dynes led the Penguins with a career-high 23 points and fifth-year senior Nico Galette nearly posted a triple-double with 15 points, seven rebounds and a career-high eight assists. Dynes connected on 11-for-12 from the floor and grabbed eight rebounds.
Junior Cris Carroll scored a career-high 20 points with eight rebounds and made a career-best four 3-pointers to go along with four assists.
Senior EJ Farmer scored 13 points with four assists while Ty Harper and Juwan Maxey each added 10 points. Maxey was also credited with seven assists and had three steals.
Everyone that played for YSU scored at least two points.
After the team's traded baskets to open the game, the Penguins went on a 13-0 run keyed by 3-pointers from Carroll, Galette, and Maxey to take a 15-2 lead at the 16:29 mark.
Bethany trimmed the lead to 16-8, but the Penguins scored 12 straight points capped by a 3-pointer by Siem Uijtendaal to extend the lead to 20, 28-8, with 12:36 to go.
The Penguins, who shot 61.5 percent from the field in the first half, made a nine first-half 3-pointers and led 65-30 at the intermission.
YSU hit five more 3s and shot 65.8 percent from the floor after halftime.
Youngstown State opens Horizon League play against Robert Morris Wednesday, Dec. 4. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at UPMC Events Center in Moon Township, Pa.
