Penguins Host Ranked Denison On Senior Day Saturday

The Youngstown State men's and women's swimming and diving programs will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday as the teams host Denison at the Beeghly Natatorium.
Diving is set to begin at 11:30 a.m. with senior day celebrations to follow at 12:30 p.m. Swimming events will officially get underway at 1 p.m.
The Penguins will honor 17 swimmers and divers competing in their senior season: Soma Albert, Gunnhildur Baldursdottir, Crispy Barton, Kamden Batchik, Jael Dankle, Elizabeth DeSalle, Rares Druga, Darren Laing, Jasper Liekens, Phillip Miller, Gavin Redden, Britney Sage, Brooke Schuette, Christian Taylor, Cody Thill, Gavin Webb, and Ales Zupanec.
About Denison
The Denison women are ranked No. 1 in all of Division III while the men are ranked No. 6. Both the men's and women's squad are on a four-meet winning streak, each defeating Cleveland State, Carnegie Mellon, Calvin, and Johns Hopkins over the past two weeks.
Last Time Out
The Penguins last competed in a two-day home dual meet that concluded on Saturday against Horizon League foe IUPUI.
YSU was defeated by the 2023 Horizon League runner-ups by scores of 363-198 for the women and 388-174 for the men.
On the first day of competition, the Penguins won three events and followed that up with six event wins on the second day.
Miriam Frass, Oliwia Kaniak, and Gavin Redden each earned event wins on both days of competition. Frass touched first in the 200 IM on Friday with a time of 2:12.01 and followed up with a 1000 free victory on Saturday, clocking a 10:20.70. Kaniak won the 100 breast with a time of 1:07.69 and finished first in the 50 breast, swimming a time of 29.80. Redden earned victories in both the 100 free and 50 fly, clocking times of 45.47 and 22:06, respectively.
Rares Druga touched first in the 50 back with a time of 23:56 on the second day of competitions while Allison Ramirez Romero earned a victory in the 100 fly with a time of 56.82. Freshman Izzy Rossi won the 100 back on Saturday with an improved time of 59.98 after finishing second in the event (1:00.64) on Friday night.
In addition to her two victories, Kaniak added three runner-up finishes to her impressive performances at the meet. She placed second in the 200 breast (2:26.17) and 200 IM (2:12.79) on the first day and followed up with a runner-up finish on the second day, clocking a 26:05 in the 50 fly. Frass also added multiple runner-up finishes to her victories, placing second in both the 200 free and 100 breast with times of 1:55.83 and 1:05.50, respectively. In addition to his two victories, Redden finished second in the 100 fly with a time of 50.93.
