Valparaiso scored a pair of goals over a span of 76 seconds in the second half to defeat the Youngstown State women's soccer team 2-0 on Friday night at Farmers National Bank Field.
The Penguins dropped to 4-2-1 this season, while Valparaiso improved to the same mark of 4-2-1.
The contest was scoreless for the first 64 minutes before Valparaiso's Addy Joiner fought through traffic to find the right side of the net at close distance at the 64:14 mark. Then, at the 65:30 mark, Lindsey Dusatko went high above YSU goalkeeper Brooklynn Kirkpatrick after a long free kick from Nicole Norfolk. Norfolk's assist was from beyond midfield, and Dusatko got behind her defender and kicked toward the goal on the second bounce.
The Beacons outshot the Penguins 16-11, and the visitors had a 6-5 edge in shots on goal. For the Penguins, Abriana Rondin and Jordan Evans both attempted three shots with each one having one attempt on goal. Valpo had seven corner kicks compared to Youngstown State's three.
The Penguins will have nothing but Horizon League contests the rest of the regular season as conference play begins next week. Youngstown State will visit Detroit Mercy on Thursday, Sept, 14, at 5:30 p.m. before hosting Northern Kentucky on Sunday, Sept. 17, at 1 p.m. at Farmers National Bank Field.
