Detroit, Mich. -- Sophomore Marissa Masano scored the first goal of her collegiate career but the Youngstown State women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Detroit Mercy on Thursday afternoon at Titan Field.
The Penguins fall to 4-3-1 overall and 0-1 in the Horizon League while the Titans improve to 3-3-3 overall and 1-0 in league play.
After an even battle for more than 40 minutes, Detroit Mercy's Erica Toupin scored in the 42nd minute to give the Titans a 1-0 lead.
The Titans expanded their lead to 2-0 in the 70th minute after a goal from Hailey Matthews.
Masano cut the lead in half with a goal on an assist from Tatum Gretz in the 79th minute.
Brooklynn Kirkpatrick tallied six saves.
Youngstown State hosts Northern Kentucky, Sunday, Sept. 17. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Farmers National Bank Field.
