Many Familiar Tournaments Ahead as Bowling Announces 2023-24 Schedule

The Youngstown State bowling team will compete in a very similar schedule to last season as it begins its first campaign as a member of Conference USA, head coach Doug Kuberski announced on Wednesday.

YSU will begin the campaign with the Penguin Classic at Holiday Bowl on Oct. 13, and the squad will compete in three additional tournaments during the fall semester. The spring semester schedule will have five competitions leading up to the inaugural Conference USA Championship in March.

The 2023-24 Penguin Classic will be the fourth edition of the tournament held at YSU's home center. The three-day tournament in Struthers, Ohio, will be held Oct. 13-15, and the Penguins are slated to have 14 teams at the tournament. Youngstown State will then fly to Orlando, Fla., for the Sunshine State Classic on the final weekend of October for its only new tournament compared with the 2022-23 schedule. YSU's November itinerary will include trips on back-to-back weeks to Kenosha, Wis., for the SFA LadyJack Classic, and to Woodbridge, Va., for the Eastern Shore Hawk Classic.

After the conclusion of the Eastern Shore Hawk Classic on Nov. 19, the Penguins will go two months without competition during the semester break. The spring semester will begin with tournaments on consecutive weekends, the Northeast Classic on Jan. 19-21 and the PVAMU Invitational on Jan. 26-28. YSU will then bowl at Arkansas State's Mid-Winter Invitational on Feb. 16-18 and Nebraska's Big Red Invitational on Feb. 23-25, and the regular season will conclude at Vanderbilt's Music City Classic on March 15-17.

The postseason will begin on March 22-24 at the Conference USA Championship. The NCAA Regionals will begin April 5-6 at four different locations, and the NCAA Championship will be April 12-13 at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park, Mich.
