Fort Wayne, Ind. -- Elis Klein Spindola's goal in the 54th minute proved to be the game winner as the Youngstown State women's soccer team knocked off Purdue Fort Wayne, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon at the Hefner Soccer Complex.
The Penguins improve to 6-5-1 overall and 2-3 in Horizon League play. The Mastodons fall to 5-4-4 overall and 2-1-2.
With the game tied at 1-1 in the 54th minute, Brooklynn Kirkpatrick's save sparked the Penguins in transition. The Penguins cleared the ball down the right side to a sprinting Chloe Weiland. Weiland raced down the right side and centered the ball. Klein Spindola's one-timer found the lower-left at the 53:36 mark.
Regan LaVigna gave the Penguins an early lead with her second goal of the season. LaVigna zipped down the middle of the field past the Mastodon defense and beat goalkeeper Samantha Castaneda one-on-one in the lower left.
The Mastodons knotted the game at 1-1 with a goal in the 31st minute.
Kirkpatrick finished with seven saves in the win.
Youngstown State faces Cleveland State, Thursday, Oct. 5. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Cleveland, Ohio.
