Youngstown, Ohio – Senior Lianna Van Sice scored her first career goal and assisted on another as the Youngstown State women's soccer team defeated Indiana State, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at Farmers National Bank Field.
The Penguins improve to 4-1-1 overall while the Sycamores fall to 0-2-4 on the season.
Senior Brooklynn Kirkpatrick became the Penguins' all-time wins leader after shutting out the Sycamores.
Junior Maddie Keister also scored her second goal of the season to notch the game-winner.
The Penguins took a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute of the game when a Van Sice corner kick found Keister on the left side of the six. Keister's header found the top-left corner.
Late in the second half, the Penguins defense denied the Sycamores from knotting the game, and responded to take a 2-0 lead.
Sophomore Chloe Weiland's cross connected with Elis Klein Spindola who found Van Sice on the right side. Van Sice drilled a shot past the Sycamore goalie in the 84th minute.
Kirkpatrick tallied seven saves in her record-breaking win.
Youngstown State hosts Valparaiso, Friday, Sept. 8. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Farmers National Bank Field.
