Austalosh’s Career-Best Performance Paces Penguins at Virtues Intercollegiate

Redshirt senior Dean Austalosh finished tied for 12th individually to pace the Youngstown State men's golf team at the Virtues Intercollegiate, which concluded on Tuesday at The Virtues Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio.

As a team, the Penguins finished tied for 13th with a three-round team total of 883. YSU posted team scores of 290 and 299 in the first two rounds, respectively, on Monday before closing out the event with a 294 in the third and final session on Tuesday.

Austalosh finished tied for 12th on the individual leaderboard with a career-best three-round score of 212 (68-73-71). The redshirt senior fired a career-low, four-under-par 68 in the opening round on Monday. The Campbell, Ohio, native notched 12 pars and five birdies during the first round as he shot a three-under-par 33 on the front nine. Austalosh's second-round 73 featured 10 pars and four birdies while his final-round 71 included 13 pars and three birdies.

Justin Atkinson finished tied for 38th with a three-round total of 219 (72-75-72). The senior's even-par 72 in the opening session included 12 pars, two birdies and an eagle on the par-five No. 10. Atkinson's final-round 72 on Tuesday featured 10 pars and four birdies.

In his debut tournament of the season, Cole Christman finished tied for 62nd with a three-round 225 (73-75-77). The fifth-year senior's one-over-par 73 in the first round featured 14 pars and a pair of birdies that came at No. 13 and No. 14.

Michael Porter concluded the event with a three-round score of 229 (77-78-74). The redshirt freshman's opening-round 77 included 14 pars and a birdie on the par-three No. 9. Porter's final-round 74 featured 12 pars and a pair of birdies.

Jacob Sylak finished the tournament with a three-round total of 235 (79-76-80). The junior's second-round 76 featured 10 pars and two birdies which came at No. 7 and No. 10.

Michigan claimed the tournament title by 23 strokes at 34 under par with a three-round team total of 830. James Madison and George Washington each posted an 853 to finish tied for second while Marshall and Miami University each recorded an 854 to tie for fourth.

Ben Hoagland (Michigan), Yuqi Liu (Michigan) and Will Kates (Ohio) each finished at nine under par with a three-round score 207 to finish tied atop the individual leaderboard.

Youngstown State will continue its fall schedule on Oct. 2-3 with the Tom Tontimonia Invitational hosted by Cleveland State at Lakewood Country Club in Westlake, Ohio.
