The Youngstown State men's golf team will continue its spring slate on Monday when it begins play in The Jewell hosted by Northern Kentucky at Elks Run Golf Club in Batavia, Ohio.
The Penguins are coming off a seventh-place finish at the Don Benbow Butler Spring Invitational on March 28. Fifth-year senior Bryan Kordupel tied for eighth with a career-best three-round score of 210 (72-70-68) to earn his fourth top-10 finish of the season. The fifth-year senior's three-round 210 is tied for the ninth-lowest 54-hole score in program history. The Boardman, Ohio, native matched his lowest round of the season with a two-under-par 68 in the final round. Kordupel is averaging a team-best 72.9 strokes per round entering play on Monday.
The tournament field at NKU's The Jewell will feature 14 other schools including Bellarmine, Chicago State, Cleveland State, Detroit Mercy, Eastern Illinois, Kentucky Wesleyan, Miami (Ohio), Northern Kentucky, Purdue Fort Wayne, Robert Morris, Saint Francis U, Southern Indiana, Thomas More and Wright State.
The teams will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday in the two-day, 54-hole event. Monday's first round will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Tee times for Tuesday's final round will run from 8:30-10:30 a.m. off No. 1 and No. 10. The course will play approximately 6,845 yards and par is 71. Live scoring will be available at Golfstat.com.
Head Coach Tony Joy has announced that YSU's lineup will feature Kordupel, Cade Kreps, Ryan Sam, Dean Austalosh and Jacob Sylak. In addition, Conner Stevens will be competing as an individual.
Kordupel, Kreps and Sam have competed in each of the eight tournaments YSU has played this season. Austalosh will participating in his seventh event of the campaign while Sylak and Stevens will each be taking part in their fifth tournament.
