Scouting Report
- The Youngstown State baseball team (6-24, 3-8 Horizon League) will play at Pitt (14-15, 5-8 ACC) on Monday at 5 p.m. before hosting Toledo (14-15, 6-8 MAC) at Eastwood Field on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

- The Penguins have dropped their last five decisions after being swept by Northern Kentucky in a three-game Horizon League series at Eastwood Field. YSU will be facing both Pitt and Toledo for the second time this season. The Guins fell 7-2 at Toledo on March 28 before dropping a 13-7 decision to Pitt at Eastwood Field on April 4.
- Monday's game at Pitt will be YSU's first road contest since playing at Toledo on March 28. The Penguins completed a seven-game homestand at Eastwood Field on Saturday. Youngstown State is in a stretch of playing eight out of nine games on its home field.
- In YSU's 15-14 win over Purdue Fort Wayne on April 1, Steven D'Eusanio went 4-for-5 with four RBIs and tied the single-game school record with three doubles. He became just the second Penguin since 2010 to double three times in a game. The Willoughby, Ohio, native is the first Penguin to double three times in a game since Blaze Glenn on March 21, 2021.
- The Penguins won their 2023 home and Horizon League opener with an 18-3 victory over Oakland at Eastwood Field on March 16. YSU set new season highs with 18 runs and 21 hits while winning its league opener for the third straight season. The Guins recorded at least 18 runs and 21 hits for the first time since posting 22 runs and 21 hits in a 22-6 victory over St. Bonaventure on March 21, 2021. YSU has won its Horizon League opener in three straight seasons for the first time in program history.
- The Penguins split a four-game series at Baylor on March 3-5. YSU's 7-5 victory on March 3 marked its first win over a Big 12 opponent since 2013. The Penguins now have four wins over Power Five opponents in the last two seasons and eight during Dan Bertolini's tenure as head coach.
- Redshirt junior shortstop Trey Law was named Horizon League Co-Batter of the Week on Feb. 28 after batting .556 and slugging .611 with 10 hits in 18 at bats over four games played at Memphis on Feb. 24-26. In addition, senior right-hander Travis Perry was named Horizon League Pitcher of the Week after leading YSU to a 6-2 victory in the series opener at Memphis on Feb. 24. Perry allowed one run on two hits with a career-high 10 strikeouts over six innings.
- Through games played on Saturday, Youngstown State ranks second in the Horizon League with 63 doubles while ranking third with a .262 batting average, 269 hits, five triples and a .385 slugging percentage.
- Senior right-hander Travis Perry leads the Horizon League with a .231 opponent batting average while ranking third with 42.1 innings pitched, fifth with 41 strikeouts, seventh with three wins and ninth with a 4.46 ERA.
- Junior shortstop Trey Law leads the Horizon League with 47 hits while ranking fourth with a .364 batting average, fifth with nine doubles and ninth with 23 runs scored and a .434 on-base percentage. He has now hit safely in 24 of his last 27 games. Law hit safely in a career-best nine straight games from Feb. 19 to March 5 before putting together an eight-game hitting streak from March 10-24.
- Senior first baseman Steven D'Eusanio leads the Horizon League with 15 doubles while ranking 10th with 34 hits. He has hit safely in 14 of his last 16 games after putting together a 12-game hitting streak from March 11 to April 2.
- Senior designated hitter Padraig O'Shaughnessy ranks second in the Horizon League with 23 walks, sixth with 27 RBIs and eighth with four home runs and eight doubles. Senior third baseman Braeden O'Shaughnessy ranks eighth in the league with 35 hits and four home runs while ranking ninth with 23 runs scored.
- Senior outfielder Turner Grau is tied for the Horizon League lead with three triples while ranking third with a team and career-high 12 stolen bases and sixth with 19 walks. Senior outfielder Andre Good ranks fifth in the league with nine doubles.

Junior outfielder CJ Funk is batting .283 and slugging .679 with a team-high 11 home runs and 32 RBIs.
- Senior right-hander Nash Bryan has a 5-2 record, a 3.27 ERA, two saves and 27 strikeouts in 22 innings pitched over a team-high 14 relief appearances. Senior right-hander Erubiel Candelario boasts a 2-0 record, a 5.96 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 22.2 innings pitched over seven appearances and five starts. He earned the win in Pitt's victory over YSU on April 4 after allowing two hits and striking out seven over five scoreless innings of relief.

- Toledo is 14-15 overall and 6-8 in Mid-American Conference play after dropping two straight games to Ohio on Friday and Saturday. The Rockets and Bobcats are meeting in the series finale on Sunday. Toledo has lost four of its last five games heading into its contest on Sunday.
- Junior infielder Jeron Williams is batting .402 and slugging .630 with a team-high 51 hits while also leading the Rockets with 22 stolen bases in 25 attempts. Sophomore outfielder Garret Pike is batting .336 and slugging .664 with nine home runs and a team-high 34 RBIs. Sophomore first baseman Owen Jackson is batting .259 and slugging .595 with a team-high 11 home runs and 29 RBIs.
