The Youngstown State baseball team dropped an 11-0 decision to Northern Kentucky on Friday afternoon at Eastwood Field.
Trey Law led the offense for the Guins with three hits, including his ninth double of the season.
The Norse scored two runs in the top of the first inning and that proved to be more than enough for starter Ben Gerl who tossed a complete-game shutout allowing just five hits while striking out five and walking none.
After YSU trailed 2-0 in the first, Law led off the inning with a double, but was thrown out trying to steal home as part of a double steal with Braeden O'Shaughnessy. From that point, Gerl retired the next 10 hitters before a Steven D'Eusanio single gave the Guins a base runner in the fourth inning.
Law added singles in the sixth and eighth innings for the Guins while Matt Thompson ripped a double to lead off the fifth inning.
On the mound, Cam Marshalwitz was saddled with the loss pitching 3.2 innings. Nick Perez came on to pitch an efficient 4.2 innings allowing just one earned run while striking out three. Kenny Misik and Zach Stayduhar each tossed a third of an inning.
The Penguins and Norse will complete their three-game Horizon League series on Saturday at Eastwood Field. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
