Green Bay, Wis. -- Green Bay used a pair of walk-off hits to lift the Phoenix to a doubleheader sweep over the Youngstown State softball team, 9-8, in eight innings, and 4-3 at Kind Park on Friday afternoon.
The Penguins fall to 20-22 overall and 8-7 in Horizon League play while the Phoenix improved to 14-27 overall and 6-9 league mark.
In the opener, Youngstown State used a four-run second inning to take a 4-1 lead. Avrey Schumacher tied the game at 1-1 with a run-scoring double to left-center field and Hailey Roach scored on a pop-out to the second baseman in shallow right field.
Senior Megan Turner belted her sixth home run of the season - a two-run shot - to left field to put YSU up 4-1.
Green Bay's Samantha Saloun belted a two-run home run in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to 4-3.
Roach extended the Penguins' lead to 5-3 in the top of the fifth inning with a single to center field that scored Hailey Niederkohr.
Saloun gave the Phoenix a 7-5 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning after hitting a grand slam to left-center field.
The Penguins knotted the game at 7-7 with a pair of unearned runs in the top of the sixth, and took an 8-7 lead in the top of the seventh on Schumacher's single up the middle.
Green Bay tied the game in the bottom of the seventh and scored the game-winner in the bottom of the eighth.
Niederkohr went 3-for-5 while Turner and Schumacher each had two hits and two RBIs.
In the nightcap, Conchetta Rinaldi went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Schumacher also had two hits.
The Penguins took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third on Jillian Jakse's run-scoring single, and expanded the lead to 3-0 in the top of the fourth on Rinaldi's two-run single.
Green Bay cut the lead to 3-2 with a two-run single in the bottom of the fourth and scored the game-winning runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Youngstown State and Green Bay close out the series with a single game on Saturday, April 22, at 1 p.m.
