Detroit, Mich. – The Youngstown State softball team's winning streak was snapped at six following a 4-2 loss to Detroit Mercy on Monday afternoon at Buysse Field.
The Penguins fall to 13-14 overall and 4-1 in league play while the Titans improve to 3-17 overall and 2-3 in league play.
Junior Elyssa Imler went 2-for-3 while senior Megan Turner belted her fourth home run of the series and fifth of the season and drove in both of the Penguins' runs.
Sara Fessler, Taylor Truran, Avrey Schumacher, and Conchetta Rinaldi also had hits for the Penguins.
The Titans struck first with an unearned run in the bottom of the first inning then scored three more in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Imler led off the top of the seventh with a double and scored on Turner's home run to left-center field. Fessler was hit by a pitch and the Penguins had the tying run come to the plate. But three straight fly outs to left field ended the game.
Youngstown State hosts St. Bonaventure, Wednesday, March 29. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at the YSU Softball Field in the Covelli Sports Complex.
