Weekend Preview
- The Youngstown State baseball team (4-16, 1-2 Horizon League) will open a three-game Horizon League series against Milwaukee (8-10, 0-3 Horizon League) with a doubleheader on Friday beginning at 1 p.m. ET at Franklin Field in Franklin, Wis. The Penguins and Panthers will attempt to finish the series on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.

- Fifth-year senior right-hander Travis Perry will take the mound for YSU in the series opener, junior right-hander Nick Perez is scheduled to start game two on Friday and freshman right-hander Aidan English is slated to start on Sunday.
- Youngstown State has dropped three straight games after falling 18-6 at Bowling Green on Wednesday. The Penguins won their 2023 home and Horizon League opener with an 18-3 victory over Oakland at Eastwood Field on March 16. YSU set new season highs with 18 runs and 21 hits while winning its league opener for the third straight season.
- The Penguins split a four-game series at Baylor on March 3-5. YSU's 7-5 victory on March 3 marked its first win over a Big 12 opponent since 2013. The Penguins now have four wins over Power Five opponents in the last two seasons and eight during Dan Bertolini's tenure as head coach.
- Redshirt junior shortstop Trey Law was named Horizon League Co-Batter of the Week on Feb. 28 after batting .556 and slugging .611 with 10 hits in 18 at bats over four games played at Memphis on Feb. 24-26. In addition, senior right-hander Travis Perry was named Horizon League Pitcher of the Week after leading YSU to a 6-2 victory in the series opener at Memphis on Feb. 24. Perry allowed one run on two hits with a career-high 10 strikeouts over six innings.
- YSU ranks second in the Horizon League with a .264 batting average, 179 hits and 43 doubles. The Penguins also rank third in the league with 113 runs scored, 15 home runs, 106 RBIs, 271 total bases, a .399 slugging percentage and a .349 on-base percentage.
- Senior right-hander Travis Perry ranks second in the Horizon League with 27 strikeouts, 26 innings pitched and a .198 opponent batting average. He also ranks fifth in the league with a 4.50 ERA. Junior right-hander Nick Perez ranks fifth in the Horizon League with 23.1 innings pitched and eighth with 21 strikeouts.
- Senior infielder Steven D'Eusanio leads the Horizon League and ranks 26th nationally with nine doubles while ranking seventh in the league with 23 hits. He has hit safely in six straight games entering this weekend's series at Milwaukee.
- Junior infielder Trey Law ranks second in the league with 28 hits, sixth with a .350 batting average, fifth with 17 runs scored and 11 walks, sixth with six doubles and seventh with a .447 on-base percentage. Law has hit safely in each of his last seven games entering Friday's doubleheader. He also hit safely in a career-best nine straight games from Feb. 19 to March 5.
- Senior infielder Braeden O'Shaughnessy ranks fourth in the Horizon League with 24 hits, sixth with three home runs and eighth with 16 runs scored. Senior first baseman Padraig O'Shaughnessy ranks third in the league with seven doubles and 21 RBIs while ranking fourth with four home runs and eighth with a .563 slugging percentage.
- Senior outfielder Andre Good ranks third in the Horizon League with seven doubles and seventh with three home runs and 15 RBIs. Senior right-hander Casey Marshalwitz leads the Horizon League and ranks 23rd nationally with 11 pitching appearances, all of which have come out of the bullpen.
- YSU was picked fourth in the 2023 Horizon League Baseball Preseason Coaches Poll. Wright State was tabbed as the preseason favorite while Oakland was picked second and Milwaukee was selected third. Northern Kentucky came in at fifth while Purdue Fort Wayne was slotted sixth. The Penguins were picked to finish third by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and fifth by D1Baseball.com.

Scouting The Panthers
- Milwaukee is 8-10 overall on the season after picking up a 4-1 victory over Concordia Wisconsin in its home opener on Tuesday at Franklin Field. The Panthers are 0-3 in Horizon League play after being swept in a three-game series at Northern Kentucky last weekend.
- Senior Aaron Chapman leads Milwaukee with a .358 batting average and a .528 slugging percentage. Senior infielder Mark Connelly is batting .333 and slugging .439 while leading the Panthers with 22 hits, four doubles and 12 RBIs. Senior catcher Jack Thelen leads MKE with three home runs.
- Junior left-hander Riley Frey has a 2-2 record, a 4.00 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 27 innings over five starts. Junior right-hander Luke Hansel boasts a 3-1 record, a 3.46 ERA and a team-high 32 strikeouts in 26 innings over five starts. Frey will start game one of Friday's doubleheader while Hansel will take the ball for MKE in game two.
- Milwaukee posted a 20-30 overall record and a 9-18 mark in Horizon League play in 2022. The Panthers were picked third out of six teams in the 2023 Horizon League Baseball Preseason Poll.

Recapping Bowling Green
- Senior designated hitter Padraig O'Shaughnessy hit two home runs as the Youngstown State baseball team fell 18-6 to Bowling Green on Wednesday in a midweek matchup at Steller Field in Bowling Green, Ohio.
- The Penguins held a 6-2 lead before the Falcons struck for four runs in the fourth inning, six in the fifth and four in the sixth to pull away for their third straight win in the series.
- O'Shaughnessy went 2-for-4 with two home runs and five RBIs to lead the Penguins offensively. The senior's two home runs and five RBIs each set new YSU career highs. He became the first Penguin to homer twice in a game since Dylan Swarmer did so at Northern Kentucky on May 15, 2022. Steven D'Eusanio went 1-for-2 with an RBI single, two walks and two runs scored.
- YSU starter Cam Marshalwitz allowed two runs on three hits and four walks over three innings in his first career start. Brandin Anderson was saddled with the loss after surrendering six runs on four hits in two thirds of an inning.
