Baltimore, Md. – The Youngstown State softball team dropped a pair of games on day one of the UMBC Tournament falling to Lafayette, 5-4, and UMBC, 3-0.
The Penguins fall to 1-5 on the season.
In the opener against Lafayette, Conchetta Rinaldi went 2-for-4 with a triple and a run batted in while Hailey Roach went 2-for-3 with a double and a run batted in.
Megan Turner also went 2-for-3 for the Penguins.
Sophie Howell struck out eight in five innings.
Against UMBC, the Penguins tallied one hit, a double by Jillian Jakse.
Devan Ryan struck out six and scattered eight hits in the loss.
The Penguins face Lafayette and UMBC, Sunday, beginning at 10 a.m.
