
Marx Finishes Eighth, Bowling Collects Four More Wins

The Youngstown State bowling team won four more matches, and Madyson Marx finished eighth individually on day two of the Mid-Winter Invitational. The three-day tournament is being held at the Hijinx Family Entertainment Center in Jonesboro, Ark.
The Penguins totaled 5,106 pins over their five traditional matches, and they qualified seventh for the best-of-seven bracket play that will begin on Sunday.
"We did a solid job today navigating the moves from the high end to low end of the house," said YSU head coach Doug Kuberski. "We were there for each other throughout the day. Heading into tomorrow, we are focused on continuing to elevate our cohesiveness and togetherness. We're excited for Sunday."
The Penguins went 2-1 against ranked teams on Saturday, and they began the day with a 1,079-956 victory over No. 21 Lincoln Memorial. That was YSU's highest set of the day behind a 262 game from Lyndsay Ennis. YSU then had two splits in the 10th frame in a five-pin, 967-962 loss to No. 17 Central Missouri. The Penguins went on to win their final three matches.
YSU started its winning streak with a 1,074-831 win over Kentucky Wesleyan in which Madyson Marx bowled a 268, and the Penguins topped No. 3 Nebraska 1,029-1,026. Kirsten Moore doubled in the 10th frame to help YSU beat the Huskers for the second straight tournament. YSU ended traditional play by beating Alabama A&M 962-836.
Individually, Marx bowled a five-game set of 1,104 to finish eighth and post her second straight top-10 finish. Ennis finished 28th with a 1,020 set, and Moore placed 33rd with a 1,004 set. Hope Bunk bowled the final three games and averaged 217.0, and Madison Doseck joined her in the lineup for the last three contests and averaged 204.0. Megan Grams averaged 184.5 in her two games, and Jade Cote averaged 173.0 in her two games.
Youngstown State will begin bracket play against No. 5 Stephen F. Austin, which qualified eighth. Play will begin at 9:10 a.m. Eastern.
