YSU Baseball Announces 2024 Schedule

The Youngstown State baseball team is slated to play 55 games across nine different states from mid-February to late May as part of its 2024 schedule, Head Coach Dan Bertolini announced on Monday.
"We have traditionally played a challenging non-conference schedule, and this season is no exception with 10 games against Power Five opponents," said Bertolini. "We are looking forward to the challenge of playing some great programs in the early portion of the season to prepare us for an always-difficult Horizon League schedule."
The Penguins will open the campaign at Texas State on Friday, Feb. 16, as part of a three-game series. YSU's home and Horizon League opener against Purdue Fort Wayne at Eastwood Field is set for Friday, March 15.
The Penguins are scheduled to play 30 Horizon League contests, 25 non-conference games and 20 games at Eastwood Field in 2024. Youngstown State will also play 10 games against four different opponents from Power Five conferences.
YSU will begin the 2024 campaign with a three-game series at Texas State on Feb. 16-18. The series and season opener on Feb. 16 will mark the first time the Penguins and Bobcats have met on the diamond. The Penguins will then play a three-game series at College of Charleston on Feb. 23-25. YSU will face the Cougars for the first time since playing a three-game series in Charleston during the shortened 2020 season. Youngstown State's first midweek contest of 2024 is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 28, at Pitt.
YSU will begin the month of March with a three-game series at Louisville on March 1-3. The Penguins and Cardinals will be meeting for the first time since the 2018 season. After a midweek game at Ohio on Tuesday, March 5, the Penguins will return south for a four-game series at Georgia Tech on March 8-10. The Guins and Yellow Jackets will meet for the first time since YSU earned a 12-3 win in Atlanta on Feb. 26, 2017. That victory marked Bertolini's first win as YSU's head coach. Youngstown State will conclude its early-season road stretch with a non-conference game at Kent State on Tuesday, March 12.
After playing its first 16 games on the road, YSU will host Purdue Fort Wayne in its home and Horizon League opener at Eastwood Field on Friday, March 15, to begin a three-game weekend series. The Penguins will remain home to host Bowling Green on March 19 before heading back on the road for a three-game Horizon League series at Oakland on March 22-24. After a midweek contest at Toledo on March 26, YSU will close out the month of March with a three-game Horizon League series against Northern Kentucky at Eastwood Field (March 28-20).
The Penguins will begin the month of April with a home game against Pitt on April 2 and a road contest at Akron on April 3 before a three-game Horizon League series at Wright State (April 5-7). YSU will begin a four-game homestand against Toledo on April 9 before welcoming Milwaukee for a three-game Horizon League series (April 12-14). After playing at Bowling Green on April 17, the Guins will travel to Purdue Fort Wayne for a three-game Horizon Leagues series (April 19-21).
Youngstown State will round out April with a season-long, five-game homestand beginning with a non-conference matchup against Kent State on April 23. After hosting Akron the following day on April 24, the Penguins will entertain Oakland for a three-game Horizon League series (April 26-28).
The month of May will begin with four straight road games for the Penguins. YSU will play a three-game Horizon League series at Northern Kentucky on May 3-5 before its final non-conference game of the regular season at Ohio State on May 8. The Guins will round out their home schedule with a three-game Horizon League series against Wright State on May 10-12 before closing the regular season with a three-game league series at Milwaukee (May 16-18).
The 2024 Horizon League Baseball Championship is scheduled for May 22-25 at the site of the No. 1 seed.
All dates and opponents are subject to change, and game times will be announced soon. The Horizon League will announce more details on the conference championship in the coming months.
