Youngstown State head volleyball coach Aline Scott announced that five high school seniors have committed to join the program for the fall.
The class includes three student-athletes from Puerto Rico and two student-athletes from the midwest. The group of Andrea Cintrón, Kelsey Cooper, Elsie McCutchan, Juliana Rivera and Destiny Skerrett also represent four different positions on the court.
"This new class of student-athletes brings a combination of tenacity, love for the game, dedication and a winning attitude that I believe can help propel our program to new heights," Scott said. "We have every position represented and a diversity of experiences that will add skill and depth to our team. This group has tremendous potential, and we are excited to welcome them all in the Fall."
Cintrón is a 6-foot setter from Naguabo, Puerto Rico, who is attending Saint Francis School. She was selected to be part of the U21 Puerto Rican National Team at the Pan American Cup in Baja California, Mexico. She has been named MVP of tournaments and played varsity and club volleyball while also being an honor roll student.
Cooper is a 6-foot-3 middle blocker from St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin, who attends St. Croix Falls High School. She has been a unanimous first-team all-state selection as well as a conference player of the year and a three-time first-team all-conference pick. She has registered more than 1,500 career kills to set the school record, and she led the Saints to the Wisconsin Division 3 state championship with 28 kills in the title match.
McCutchan is a 5-foot-6 defensive specialist who attends Evansville North High School in Evansville, Ind. She has set school records for career and single-season digs, and she has led the Southern Indiana Athletic Conference in digs. She has been named to the All-Metro Team while leading the Huskies to their best season in school history in 2021 with a 24-5 record.
Rivera is a 5-foot-9 setter from Manatí, Puerto Rico, who plays at Colegio Adianez and was a member of Puerto Rico's U19 team who competed at the World Championship. She has been named the most valuable player at numerous tournaments while leading her high school team to several championships. The team is currently ranked first in Puerto Rico having dropped one match all year. As a member of the Vaqueros Volleyball Club, she helped lead the team to a national tournament in Chicago.
Skerrett is a 5-foot-10 outside hitter from Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, who attends Ciem Private School. She was a member of Puerto Rico's U19 team that competed at the World Championship. She also played on the national team at the Pan American Cup and the Pan American Games in 2023 and the Pan American Cup in 2022.
