Youngstown, Ohio – Sophomore Taylor Berry scored her third goal of the season, but the Youngstown State women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Oakland on Sunday afternoon at Farmers National Bank Field.
The Penguins fall to 6-6-2 overall and 2-4-1 in Horizon League play while the Golden Grizzlies improve to 4-5-5 overall and 2-1-3 in the league.
Oakland's Macey Wierenga scored twice to give the Golden Grizzlies a 2-0 lead. Her first goal come in the sixth minute on a penalty kick while her second score came at the 28:35 mark.
Berry cut the lead in half early in the second half at the 46:02 mark. Chloe Weiland found Berry in the center and Berry blasted a shot into the lower left.
The Penguins outshot the Golden Grizzlies, 14-8, and had a total of eight shots on goal. Berry led seven different players with shots on goal with two.
Youngstown State hosts Milwaukee, Thursday, Oct. 12. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. at Farmers National Bank Field.
