Youngstown, Ohio - Sophomore defender Emma Rigone scored the first goal of her collegiate career as the Youngstown State women's soccer team battled Horizon League leader Milwaukee to a 1-1 draw on Thursday night at Farmers National Bank Field.
The Penguins move to 6-6-3 overall and 2-4-2 in Horizon League play and snapped Milwaukee's six-game win streak. The Panthers go to 9-2-3 overall and 6-0-1 in league play.
Milwaukee outshot the Penguins, 8-2, in the first half and senior Brooklynn Kirkpatrick tallied four saves.
After a scoreless first half, the Penguins began the second stanza with new found energy.
Less than three minutes into the second half, Rigone gave the Penguins a 1-0. Senior Justine Appolonia's corner kick to the middle of the box found a leaping Rigone, whose header landed in the lower-right corner at tge 47:43 mark. It marked Appolonia's first assist of the year and the second of her career.
The Panthers knotted the game on Kristina Karloff's penalty kick in the 56th minute.
Youngstown State continued to be the aggressor by out shooting the Panthers, 8-6, after halftime.
Kirkpatrick finished with five saves.
Youngstown State faces Green Bay, Saturday, Oct. 21. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. in Green Bay, Wis.
