Three Top-10 Wins Highlights Bowling's Second Day in Arlington

The Youngstown State bowling team won its final four matches behind high scores from junior Madyson Marx as play continued on Saturday at the Prairie View A&M Invitational at The ITRC.
The Penguins finished 4-1 in their head-to-head traditional contests, and they moved up one position in the team standings. The Penguins totaled 4,959 pins in their five matches, which was the third-highest total of the round, on Saturday. YSU is just 14 pins out of fourth place and 58 pins behind third with one more match of qualifying remaining on Sunday morning. The top four teams will be in the championship bracket later Sunday.
"Today was quite the challenging day, and I loved how we embraced every aspect of it," said YSU head coach Doug Kuberski. "We've put ourselves in position, and it'll take some continued solid bowling to make a run tomorrow. We're going to enjoy the ITRC festivities, enjoy our evening together, and come rested and prepared to do our darnedest tomorrow."
The Penguins' lone loss of the day came in the opener as they fell 993-928 to No. 15 Mount St. Mary's. YSU then won four straight matches, three of which were against teams ranked in the top 10 of the NTCA Poll. YSU topped No. 8 Sam Houston 1,014-936 for its first ranked victory, and it followed with a 978-849 win over Prairie View A&M. The Penguins then beat No. 6 Arkansas State 1,030-1,016 and No. 9 Louisiana State 1,009-995 in a pair of close decisions to complete the day.
Marx is in second place with one match remaining, and freshman Hope Bunk sits 12th. Marx totaled 1,121 pins for a 224.2 average, and Bunk shot 1,040 for a 208.0 average. Kirsten Moore is 30th (961), Jade Cote is 44th (937) and Lyndsay Ennis is 57th (180.0)
Youngstown State's final day at the PVAMU Invitational will begin at 9:25 a.m. Eastern with a traditional match against Nebraska. Teams will then be placed into a playoff bracket to determine the final places. All matches will be streamed live on BowlTV.
