Green Bay, Wis. – Four players scored in double figures to lead the Youngstown State men's basketball team to its fifth straight victory with an 86-70 win over Green Bay at the Resch Center.
The Penguins improve to 15-5 overall and 7-2 in the Horizon League while the Phoenix fall to 2-18 overall and 1-8 in league play.
Senior Dwayne Cohill scored a game-high 26 points while graduate Malek Green posted 17 points with eight rebounds, graduate Adrian Nelson recorded his eighth double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Brandon Rush added 10 points.
Brock Heffner led the Phoenix with 24 points.
The Penguins scored the first 11 points of the game and made five of their first seven shots from the floor.
William Dunn hit a 3-pointer and a free throw to extend the YSU lead to 13, 19-6, with 12:41 left before halftime.
Green Bay fought back with a 14-5 run to get within four, 24-20, before the Penguins regained an eight-point after baskets by John Lovelace, Jr., Bryce McBride and Cohill.
The Phoenix cut the Penguins lead to five, 37-32, at halftime.
The Penguins led 42-36 at the 18:19 mark after a basket by Heffner, and went on a 20-0 run over the next 6:17 to take a 62-36 lead with 12:02 remaining. After free throw by McBride, Rush stole the inbound and made a layup and a steal by Cohill and layup by Nelson pushed the YSU lead to 47-36 to lead the scoring spurt.
Youngstown State boosted its lead to as many as 31 points, 73-42, with 8:24 to go in the game.
Green Bay went on an 17-3 run to get within 17, 76-59, with just under five minutes to play.
The Phoenix would get as close as 14 with 32 second left.
Youngstown State closes its four-game road trip at Milwaukee, Saturday, Jan. 21, at 7 p.m. Eastern.
