The Youngstown State men's and women's cross country programs are set to compete at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown Invitational at Boston College on Friday.
The race will take place at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. The women's featured 5k is set to begin at noon, followed by the men's featured 8k at 12:30 p.m. Afterwards, a combined open (M&W) 5k will take place at 1:15 p.m.
The invitational is set to feature several nationally ranked teams. For the women, #19 Syracuse, #20 Harvard, #23 Gonzaga, and #36 Penn State are set to compete. On the men's side, #12 Harvard, #18 Gonzaga, #19 Syracuse, and #38 Virginia are set to race. Many regionally ranked teams will also compete at the invitational. This event is one of the top cross country invites in the country for college teams.

Last Time Out
The Penguins were last in action in their season-opener at the Penn State Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational on Sept. 16.
In the men's 5.2 mile, three Penguins placed in the top 50. Junior Ty Coon was first to cross the finish line for the Penguins clocking a 26:19.2 to finish 27th. Junior Ryan Meadows was just behind Coon, running a 26:22.8 for 31st place. Rounding out the top 50, junior Tyler Clark clocked a 26:59.3 in his 50th-place effort. Overall, the men finished in seventh place with 192 team points.
On the women's side, senior Mackenzie Scott finished with a time of 22:47.8 in the 6k to earn 43rd place. Close behind her was freshman Molly Hopple who clocked a 23:10.8 to place 52nd. The YSU women's team placed seventh overall with 194 team points.
After the Penguins' performance at PSU, the Penguins swept the Horizon League freshman runners of the week. Hopple was named the female #HLXC freshman runner of the week, while Formica was named the male #HLXC freshman runner of the week.

YSU will head to the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational on Sept. 30. in South Bend, Ind. at Burke Golf Course on the campus of Notre Dame.
The invitational will feature Blue, Open, and Gold Divisions of the women's 5k and the men's 5 mile. The Blue Race of the women's 5k is set to start at 10:30 a.m. followed by the men's 5 mile at 11:15 p.m. Afterwards, the Open Division of the races will take off at noon for the women and 12:30 p.m. for the men. The competition will finish off with the Gold Race. The women's 5k will take off at 1:30 p.m. and the men's 5 mile will finish off the day at 2:30 p.m.
