Valparaiso, Ind. -- A Valparaiso goal scored in the 74th minute lifted the Beacons past the Youngstown State women's soccer team, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at Brown Field.
With the loss, the Penguins fall to 0-2 on the season while Valparaiso improves to 1-0-1.
Junior goalkeeper
Brooklynn Kirkpatrick was solid in the net collecting five saves and facing 17 shots and six shots on goal.
The Penguins defense also staved off 12 Valpo cornerkicks while the offense attempted nine shots and had two shots on goal.
Freshman
Taylor Berry led the team with three shots while senior
Abriana Rondin had two shots and one shot on goal.
The Beacons' Kiley Dugan scored the game-winner at the 73:04 mark with a shot from the left side of the box that slipped past Kirkpatrick and into the bottom center of goal.
Youngstown State hosts Duquesne in the 2022 home opener, Thursday, Aug. 25. Kickoff is slate for 7 p.m. at Farmers National Bank Field in the Covelli Sports Complex.
