Akron, Ohio -- The Youngstown State women's soccer team dropped its 2022 season opener to Akron, 1-0, on Thursday evening at FirstEnergy Stadium.
The Penguins fall to 0-1 while the Zips improve to 1-0.
Although Youngstown State outshot the Akron, 13-7, the Penguins managed just one shot on goal while the Zips recorded five shots on goal.
Akron's Carli Bruni scored the game's lone goal in the 25th minute. Bruni lofted a long ball from just outside the left of the penalty box soared over the outstretched arms of YSU goalkeeper
Brooklynn Kirkpatrick and into the lower-right corner of the net.
After the Zips took a 1-0 lead into halftime, the Penguins came out aggressive in the second half and peppered the Akron goalkeeper with eight second-half shots.

Chloe Weiland led the Penguins with three shots each while junior
Lianna Van Sice was credited with two shots.
Kirkpatrick was credited with four saves for the Penguins.
Youngstown State visits Valparaiso, Sunday, Aug. 21, at 1 p.m.
