YSU Beats Oakland in Horizon League Opener

The Youngstown State women's tennis team defeated Oakland 5-2 in the Horizon League opener for both schools on Sunday at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.
The Penguins (7-8 overall and 1-0 HL) won five of six singles matches against the Golden Grizzlies (6-7 and 0-1) to earn the victory.
After dropping the doubles point, YSU came out strong in singles play winning the first three decided matches.
At No. 2, Eliska Masarikova cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win against Yasmin Glazbrook. Soon after her win, Elisa Rigazio claimed a 6-2, 6-0 victory beating Jillian Milano at No. 4. Julia Marko followed at No. 3 taking a 6-3, 6-2 contest over Nirva Patel.
Oakland stemmed the tide with a straight set win at No. 1 to pull within 3-2.
In a lenghty two-set clash, Lili Minich clinched the win for the Guins with a 7-6, 7-5 win at No. 6 against Emma Hultqvist. Jessica Stanmore rallied after dropping her first set 7-5 to beat Tegan Heaton 6-3, 6-3 in the next two sets at No. 6 singles to round out the match.
The Penguins are next in action on Saturday when they visit Northern Kentucky.
