St. Bonaventure, N.Y. -- Senior Yazmine Romero tied the school's all-time hits record, Head Coach Brian Campbell recorded his 600th career win, and sophomore Sophie Howell fired her first career shutout as the Youngstown State softball team swept a doubleheader from St. Bonaventure, 3-1, and 1-0, on Wednesday afternoon.

With the wins, the Penguins improve to 21-17 overall while the Bonnies fall to 7-27.

In the opener, Romero went 3-for-5 with an RBI and senior Elle Buffenbarger picked up her 14th win of the year and had 10 strikeouts.

Megan Turner's two-out double to right field plate Romero with the game's first run in the top of the fifth inning.

The Purple Eagles scored an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth inning, which tied the game at 1-1.

In the top of the ninth, sophomore Hailey Niederkohr's single up the middle scored Avrey Schumacher, who went 2-for-4, with the go-ahead run. Romero's bunt single, her third hit of the game, plated Niederkohr to give the Penguins a two-run lead.

In the nightcap, Howell fired a complete-game, two-hit shutout with six strikeouts to pick up her third win of the season.

Junior Conchetta Rinaldi's first inning double to right-center field scored Turner, who singled, from first base for the game's lone run.

Youngstown State hosts Northern Kentucky in three-game series, April 15-16. First pitch of Friday's doubleheader is at 3 p.m.
