Niagara University, N.Y. -- The Youngstown State softball team dropped a pair of games to Niagara on Tuesday afternoon at the Niagara Softball Field.

The Penguins fell, 7-6, and 2-0, to fall to 19-17 overall. The Purple Eagles improve to 11-14 overvall.

In the opener, junior Megan Turner went 4-for-5 with two doubles and two runs batted in while junior Avrey Schumacher drove in two runs with a pair of RBIs and senior Nikki Saibene tallied two hits.

Youngstown State plated four runs in the top of the first when Turner drove in Yazmine Romero with a double to take a 1-0 lead. After a sacrifice bunt, a ground out by Taylor Truran plated Turner and Schumacher's double to right field scored Saibene and Hailey Niederkohr.

The Purple Eagles scored once in the bottom half of the first and third innings, four times in the fourth and plated another run in the fifth to take a 7-4 lead.

Youngstown State added one in the top of the sixth on Turner's second run-scoring double that plated Romero.

In the top of the seventh, the Penguins got within one, 7-6, on Grace Cea's no out, bases-loaded walk. The Penguins would leave the bases loaded.

In the nightcap, Romero tallied both of the Penguins' hits in the 2-0 loss.

Youngstown State visits St. Bonaventure in a doubleheader, Wednesday, April 13, at 2 p.m.
