Softball Picks Up Two Wins to Close Out Winthrop Tournament

Rock Hill, S.C. -- The Youngstown State softball team picked up a pair of wins to close out the Winthrop Tournament by defeating Albany, 10-5, and Towson, 12-1.
With the wins, the Penguins improve to 4-5 on the season.
In the opener, senior Elle Buffenbarger struck out 11 in a complete-game performance to pick up her third win of the season.
Avrey Schumacher went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in to lead the Penguins offensively.
Against Towson, Yazmine Romero and Hailey Niederkohr each had three hits and Niederkohr drove in three runswhile Conchetta Rinaldi drove in four runs and belted a three-run home run.
Senior Nikki Saibene went 2-for-4 with three runs batted in.
Sophomore pitcher Sophie Howell struck out nine to earn her first victory of the season.
The Penguins face Hampton, Friday, Feb. 25, at 10 a.m. to open a four-game set at the Hampton Tournament.
