Penguins Post Four Baker Wins on Friday at MOTIV Ladyjack Classic

Kenosha, Wis. – The Youngstown State bowling team had to grind through splits and missed spares but still managed to go 4-1 in head-to-head matches on Friday at the MOTIV Ladyjack Classic. Stephen F. Austin is hosting the three-day tournament at Sheridan Lanes.
The Penguins averaged 196.2 per game and totaled 4,906 pins in their five Baker matches, which ranks them seventh in the standings after the opening day.
"Today reminded me a lot of our Saturday we had in New York," said YSU head coach Doug Kuberski. "We were able to navigate pair-to-pair very well, communicate at a high level, and put mistakes behind us. These types of days are important. I'm very proud of the group for staying together. We are going to enjoy our evening, rest, and come ready to elevate tomorrow."
The No. 9 Penguins dropped their opening match 1,149-915 to No. 2 Vanderbilt, and the Commodores went on to average an impressive 225.0 for the day. YSU bounced back to top 1,000 in a 1,008-921 win over Valparaiso in its second match, and the Penguins edged Maria 974-952 to improve to 2-1. Youngstown State's best match of the day resulted in a 1,026-901 win over No. 20 Lewis, and the Penguins finished Friday with a 983-840 win over No. 18 UW-Whitewater.
Youngstown State trails sixth-place Maryville by 39 pins, and it has eight more matches of qualifying remaining over the next two days. The Penguins will bowl in five traditional matches on Friday beginning at 10:25 a.m. Eastern.
