Bowling Shows Big Improvement on Saturday; Five Penguins Place in Top 30

Kenosha, Wis. – The Youngstown State bowling team had improved scores and had all five individuals place in the top 30 as the MOTIV Ladyjack Classic continued with traditional play on Saturday.
The Penguins averaged 210.8 per game as a team, which was a big step up from Friday's 196.2 average in Baker play. Youngstown State went 3-2 in head-to-head play with its two losses coming by a combined nine pins, and the Penguins are in sixth place after two days of competition.
"I'm very proud of the ladies for staying focused on our process and staying together," said YSU head coach Doug Kuberski. "The notes we gathered on Friday empowered us to elevate our game today across the board. We are enjoying our time together and can't wait to get back out there tomorrow."
Youngstown State began the morning with a 1,075-984 victory over No. 4 Stephen F. Austin, which is serving as the tournament's host. YSU then dropped a four-pin decision to No. 15 Maryville but bounced back with its highest total of the day in a 1,123-1,036 victory over No. 25 Newman. Another close loss followed, this one a 1,050-1,045 margin against No. 3 Nebraska, and YSU finished hte day with a 1,005-992 victory against No. 6 Arkansas State.
Individually, Kirsten Moore was the Penguins' top finisher with a five-game set of 1,115 that was good for eighth among the talented field of bowlers. Madyson Marx (1,072) and Madison Doseck (1,067) finished within five pins of each other to place 15th and 16th, respectively. Lyndsay Ennis placed 26th (1,025), and Jade Cote was 30th (992).
Youngstown State will bowl in three more Baker matches during qualifying on Sunday as it tries to make a move up the standings. The Penguins will bowl against Carthage, North Central and No. 1 McKendree to conclude qualifying, and one best-of-seven Baker match will follow.
